Where palmistry comes from
Hand reading appears in India over three thousand years ago as part of Vedic tradition, travels through Persia and the Greek world — Aristotle wrote about it — and reaches medieval Europe alongside astrology. The four major lines
Heart line
The uppermost horizontal line. It describes how you attach: a long, curved heart line suggests openly expressed feeling; a short or straight one, emotion held privately and shown through action.
Head line
Runs across the middle of the palm and speaks to how you think. A straight line reads as practical and linear; a sloping line as imaginative and associative. Breaks mark changes in how you make decisions.
Life line
Curves around the base of the thumb. It maps vitality and the major turns of circumstance — not lifespan. A wide arc suggests strong physical energy; a tight one, a more measured, protected life.
Fate line
The vertical line rising toward the middle finger, absent in many hands. Where present, it is read as a sense of direction, vocation and how strongly external forces shape your path.
How to photograph your palm
Shoot in daylight near a window, without flash — direct flash flattens the lines and loses the fine ones. Keep the hand relaxed and slightly cupped rather than stretched taut, and fill the frame from wrist to fingertips.
